ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This No Place Like Home! ESL Lesson
This advanced C1–C2 ESL lesson asks whether modern neighborhoods are improving or losing the character that once made them feel like home. Students examine a familiar street transformed by new apartments, businesses and transport links, and consider what progress can cost a community.
The article explores changing populations, disappearing independent shops, social isolation and the new cultural diversity brought by newcomers. Students discuss why better convenience can be a mixed blessing and how parks, libraries and shared spaces can help residents put down roots.
In Through Their Eyes, students assess how a proposed redevelopment affects five different residents. They then use advanced expressions in context, role-play a neighborhood walking tour and write an opinion essay that addresses the strongest opposing view.
