About This Advanced Microplastics ESL Lesson

Microplastics have been found across the environment, from oceans and soil to food and drinking water. Their tiny size makes them difficult to remove and means exposure is increasingly hard to avoid.

This C1–C2 lesson explores what we know and still do not know about microplastics, who should carry the burden of reducing them and whether governments should act before every risk is fully proven.

Students compare possible responses to microplastic pollution before proposing and defending a policy that balances precaution, evidence, cost and responsibility.

The particles found so far may be only the tip of the iceberg. Scientists are still working to understand how much microplastic people are exposed to and what long-term effects that exposure could have.
