About This Michelin Guide ESL Lesson

The Michelin Guide began as a free book made by a tire company. Today its secret inspectors award restaurant stars that can change a chef’s career.

This A1–A2 Michelin Guide ESL lesson helps beginner learners talk about restaurants, famous food, expensive meals, street food and whether taste can really be judged.

Students use a short original reading and audio, beginner vocabulary, true-or-false comprehension, five discussion questions, a four-star inspector activity, a restaurant-owner speaking challenge and guided writing.

When cars were new, there were fewer than 3,000 in all of France. Two brothers sold tires, but people did not drive much, so nobody needed new ones. Their idea was a small red book. It was free, and it told drivers where to find gas, hotels and good food.
