ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This Advanced Luck & Success ESL Lesson
Successful people often describe long hours, bold decisions and persistence. Less attention is given to birthplace, family circumstances, timing, connections and the unexpected opportunities that may have helped them along the way.
This C1–C2 lesson explores the relationship between luck and effort and asks what our beliefs about success mean for fairness, opportunity and responsibility. Students consider early advantages, social mobility and whether acknowledging luck changes how we judge both winners and losers.
Students weigh the lucky factors behind six different success stories, decide whether luck or effort mattered most, and then develop and defend a university admissions rule under challenge.
