ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This Advanced Korean Food ESL Lesson
Korean food has become a global cultural force, helped by pop culture, tourism promotion and the international appetite for Korean entertainment. But success creates a more complicated question: what happens to a cuisine when it changes to suit the world?
This C1–C2 lesson explores authenticity, adaptation, soft power and ownership. Students consider whether changing dishes for foreign tastes helps a cuisine travel or strips away some of the culture and history that made it distinctive.
Students decide where an adapted dish stops being Korean before developing and defending a national strategy for promoting cuisine abroad under challenge from traditional chefs.
