ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This Advanced Greenwashing ESL Lesson
Green claims now appear across almost every kind of product, from plastic bottles and flights to clothing and energy. Some reflect genuine progress, while others make a company look more environmentally responsible than it really is.
This C1–C2 lesson explores greenwashing, vague environmental language, carbon offsets, regulation and consumer responsibility. Students examine how marketing can hide inconvenient facts and debate who should be responsible for checking environmental claims.
Students evaluate six different green claims, identify what each might hide, and then develop and defend one change for a supermarket chain accused of greenwashing.
