ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This Advanced Cashless Society ESL Lesson
Paying by card or phone can feel effortless, but the disappearance of cash raises questions that go far beyond convenience.
This C1–C2 lesson examines who benefits financially from digital payments and who may lose access, privacy or independence. Students consider the interests of banks, businesses and governments alongside the experiences of older people, the unbanked and people who depend on cash as a safety net.
Students evaluate who wins and loses from a fully digital payment system before advising a government on one rule for a ten-year transition away from cash and defending that policy against opposition.
