About This Moon Festival ESL Lesson

One full moon, four countries and four different celebrations. In this A1–A2 lesson, students read about Chuseok in Korea, the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, Tết Trung Thu in Vietnam and Tsukimi in Japan, using accessible English to compare what families do.

The reading explains how the festivals share a date but have developed different traditions. Students learn that Korea had its own harvest customs, Japan borrowed moon-viewing ideas, and Vietnam's festival is especially associated with children. They consider why traditions change and whether one country can own a custom.

Students plan a museum room about the four festivals, practice key vocabulary, role-play a discussion about a company's Moon Festival product, and write a short opinion about who traditions belong to.

If a custom is borrowed, changed and loved for a thousand years, whose is it?
