About This Travel ESL Lesson

Two people can visit the same country and come home having experienced completely different trips. One might spend the week inside an all-inclusive resort, while another explores local streets, food, transport and everyday life.

This B1–B2 Travel ESL lesson asks what actually makes travel meaningful. Students consider the convenience of resort holidays, authentic experiences, cultural immersion, tourism spending and whether simply being somewhere means we have really experienced it.

The lesson avoids the easy assumption that independent travelers always do it better. Students explore how curiosity and willingness to engage with unfamiliar places may matter more than the style of trip, then build their own seven-day Thailand itinerary with a limited budget.

Two friends can fly to Thailand in the same week and return with completely different experiences. One stays inside an all-inclusive resort; the other explores markets, transport and local food. But independent travel is not automatically more authentic. What seems to matter is the curiosity you bring to a place and how willing you are to immerse yourself in something unfamiliar.
