ABOUT THIS LESSON
About This Fake Reviews ESL Lesson
Before choosing a restaurant, booking a hotel or buying a new product, millions of people check online reviews. A high star rating can make an unknown business appear trustworthy, while a few terrible reviews can persuade customers to stay away.
This B1–B2 Fake Reviews ESL lesson explores what happens when those reviews cannot be trusted. Students examine how businesses can pay for positive reviews, competitors can post negative ones and fake accounts can create the appearance of genuine customer experiences.
The lesson combines an original reading and audio with vocabulary, comprehension, discussion questions and critical-thinking activities. Students use English to discuss online trust, star ratings, consumer behavior, manipulation and how people can separate genuine opinions from fake reviews.
