About This Life Skills ESL Lesson
Students can spend years learning equations, literature, science and history, yet still leave school unsure how taxes work, how credit grows, what investing means or how to handle many of the practical decisions of adult life.
This B1–B2 Life Skills ESL lesson asks what schools should really teach. Students explore the case for financial literacy, first aid, cooking, AI literacy, basic law and other practical subjects, while also considering why traditional subjects such as mathematics, literature and science still matter.
The lesson combines an original reading and audio with vocabulary, comprehension, discussion and critical-thinking activities. Students redesign the school week, decide what should be added, choose what would lose classroom time, and debate the bigger question: what is school actually for?
